Pantheon Percussion: Making Sure We Get The Right Look And Sound

Today we went on-site to St. Hilda’s Church to do a thorough once-over for their 30-year old DW kit. This involved scrubbing up the drums, hardware, cymbals, everything.

We also changed out the heads and re-tuned the kit to best suit the kind of sound they wanted from the drums.

One of the tuning techniques I have been teaching is to choose the right heads for the sound you want. On this kit we changed the floor tom heads to 2-ply heads ON BOTH SIDES for a “thuddier”, more focused sound, fine tuned with dampening gels. Now it’s so much easier to achieve that full, modern worship sound on the kit. We are also changing the snare wires and converting a 14” rack tom to a floor tom: those pesky ball joint mounts break once too often for these big drums.
